College Track and Field Scholarships
Universities in USA have a long tradition with Track and Field athletics. It’s a very popular sport in College and the top level is very high. The opportunity to receive a college track and field scholarship is a great chance for athletes.
To pursue a professional career in track and field is very though financially if you don’t succeed pretty quick. By competing for an University you will receive world class trainng and at the same time an education with college track and field scholarships.
The track and field scholarship covers your living expenses and your education fees.
Around 1000 different universities and colleges participate in Track and Field athletics. Many track and field athletes become successful professional athletes after their college career.
To be able to compete in top NCAA Track & Field level, you should be one of the best in your age group in your country. Of course there are also other universities and divisions where you can receive a college track and field scholarship with the level being less competitive.
Each fully funded college track and field team have around 12 track and field scholarships to offer for the Men’s team, while they have 18 college track and field scholarships for the Women’s team.
In general, five practice sessions a week of 2 – 3 hours each is something you can expect when attending a university as track and field athlete, but of course this varies between the different colleges and coaches.
The track and field season begins in spring (January). ICAC Sports recommend students to apply for a college track and field scholarship early so you are ready to attend the university in August. This is so you already are part of the team from the beginning of the season.
